We provide client support for new radioactive materials licensees, amendments and license terminations. Licensees are required to navigate through a complex series of regulatory requirements to obtain or remove a radioactive materials license. We understand the regulatory framework and have a proven track record with the regulatory agencies.
We also provide annual radiation safety compliance audits required by 10 CFR 20.1101 utilizing our years of experience and guidance provided by NUREG 1556. Our staff has experience in auditing Commercial Radiopharmacies, Broad Scope and Materials Licensees.
Decommissioning Funding Estimates
Licensees using quantities of radioactive materials in excess of the applicable regulatory thresholds are required to provide financial assurance in an amount sufficient to decommission their facility in the event of financial hardship. There is a prescribed approach to assembling the decommissioning funding estimate (DFE) which also specifies the plan be updated every three (3) years. We use a standardized approach that follows NUREG 1757, Consolidated NMSS Decommissioning Guidance provided in a format that allows our clients to update their DFE in-house as site conditions change.
Radiation Safety Officer Support
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is one of several states that allow radioactive material licensees to designate an outside person (i.e., registered consultant) as their radiation safety officer (RSO). The RSO is responsible for the overall performance and implementation of the facility's radiation safety program components. Our team has a proven track record of supporting such programs without ever incurring a Notice of Violation.
Industrial Hygiene
We perform qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments to identify and control workplace contaminants. We use our professional experience to eliminate contaminants based on limited exposure and hazard to employees. This allows our client to focus resources on the important contaminants of concern. Our reports not only quantify the levels of the selected contaminants but also provide real world recommendations based on our industry experience.
Our staff has experience performing chemical deactivation and decontamination of processes and equipment with hazardous agents including chemotherapy treatments and active antibiotics. All of our industrial hygiene projects are overseen by a Certified Industrial Hygienist.
BioSafety Support
We provide both technical and operational support of existing biosafety programs for the R&D industry. We provide comprehensive program audits for our clients with recommendations for continuous improvement.
